Celebrity and Social Media Use

June 19, 2013
Three celebrities, Martha Stewart, Melanie Brown and Nick Cannon have shared how they express themselves most of the time via social media platforms. The three were present during the start of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. They shared how they prefer posting and updating their accounts on their own to keep their followers. The stars also cited a few of their experiences on social media.

Celebrity Activity

According to Martha Stewart (@MarthaStewart), being authentic helps her keep her more than 4 million followers on Twitter. Stewart said that fans can sense when someone else is updating the profile aside from the real celebrity. According to Nick Cannon (@NickCannon), his posts on social media platforms like Twitter best represent him and what he does. He currently has 2.8 million followers and said that one of the biggest reasons why he has a lot is by staying true to his fans and posting personally. Celebrities have a tendency to appear aloof if they give the impression that they can?t even dedicate some time responding and updating fans.

It's Not Always Sunny

There were also instances when they got into awkward situations online. Cannon has been in a number of fights on the internet. Stewart sometimes misspells words, giving her fans the impression that she?s drunk. The lifestyle guru only spends 5 minutes on Twitter daily. Cannon is more active, tweeting as many as 30 to 40 times on good days. Ex-Spice Girl Mel B (@OfficialMelB) shared that she tweets 5 to 6 times daily. Melanie has 769,000 followers. The three agreed that social media has changed the way advertisers target customers. Because of their regular use of the service and constant tweets, they have become part of the most popular celebrities on the internet. Business and career opportunities have paved the way for many celebrities, models and entertainers around the world. Also, stars today have a kind of protection from the media and paparazzi since they can post photos and provide updates personally. People will believe the real news coming from the actual personality involved.
