Hashtags and Memes: The Fun (and Funny) Ways They Go Together

There are several instances when marketers or casual users incorporate these to create hype or simply attack someone or a company on social media platforms. There are meme makers and apps that make it more easy for regular users to come up with their own jokes and funny anecdotes.

The New York Knicks recently won against defending champions Miami Heat. Many Knicks fans immediately resorted to social media to tweet about their favorite players and share photos of the most memorable moments of the game. A social media user posted a photo of Lee during the game and created the hashtag #mamaspike. The photo showed Lee wearing a bright orange jacket over his blue sweatshirt and had an orange bonnet and big white-rimmed eyeglasses on. He looked like a character out of a comedy movie or cartoon, wearing the Knicks? team colors. Lee was standing at courtside with his hands at his waist.

There were plenty of memes created which featured the hilarious photo. People continue to pour their ideas and quotes that matched the photo on #mamaspike. Another user tweeted, ?Be home when the street lights come On, and not down on the corner!!? Another post said, ?You can?t keep your grades up and got the nerve to ask me for some new Jordan?s?. Users shared some of the usual lines that strict mothers would tell their kids. The hashtag reached over 11,000 tweets at its peak.

Another hashtag also trended well on Twitter called #AfricanNationsInHighschool, which shared many of the things that African high school students experience. Many of the memes made featured the best traits and qualities of Africans like running, singing and playing basketball. People also shared memes about African countries and the difficulties and political issues that their citizens deal with every day.

Some of the tweets included ?Nigeria is that kid that always has money, but no one knows where they get it from.? Another said, ?South Africa would be that kid who goes to Namibia on holiday and comes back with a Californian accent.? Social media users used the name of countries to describe the social predicaments and controversies surrounding blacks, whether abroad or at home. The hashtag hit a whopping 43,600 tweets at its peak. These hashtags and memes show that using both simultaneously can result to big benefits for marketers and users who like to have successful campaigns and long term results. These are also great tools to spread awareness and inform others on global issues and other important events. Whether the objective is to make people laugh or get more followers, these will work to your advantage.
