The Hottest Hashtags In The Last 24 Hours

February 14, 2013
For a campaign to matter on Twitter, its hashtag has to grow into a trending topic. Without people talking about it and using a specific hashtag on their posts, you might as well kiss your hashtag into oblivion. If, however, it gets into that little box at right side that lists top trends according to location, then you can rest assured that others will be curious and try to ride on. The attention will be worth a whole lot more if you've managed to trend not just in the US but worldwide. Here are some of the most talked about hashtags in the past 24 hours. And since it's Valentine's Day, we can only expect that the trends will be mostly related to love and relationships.

#CandyHeartRejects

#CandyHeartRejects features humorous photos of candy hearts that did not or never will make it to the pack of Valentine candy hearts likely distributed on Valentine's day.

The hashtag reached 42,900 tweets per hour and close to 100 million impressions per hour at its peak, with top related hashtags including #happyvalentinesday, #survivor and #skipbemyvalentine. Studying its activity three days back, we find that the hashtag actually started at around 11:00 AM of February 13, garnering some 300 tweets on its first hour. This is actually a good tip for marketers looking to create hashtags that will immediately trend -- make your hashtag simple, easy to understand and very relatable.
