July 18, 2013
Successful social media marketers understand the importance of knowing what the market wants and how the regular social media user thinks. Their strategies and approaches will adjust according to the current needs and activities of the target customer. Social media users tend to have accounts in more than one website and maintain one or more email accounts. Compared to a couple of years ago, people who visit social media networks have grown by 51 percent. 42 percent have multiple social media accounts, 62 percent of which belong to the 18 to 34 age range. People also keep an average of 3.1 email accounts, which is an increase from 2.6 the previous year. 35 percent of social media users spend at least 31 minutes each day interacting or replying on social media sites. 27 percent check their social media account as soon as they wake up. There are also several social media users who experience apprehension and fear when visiting various sites. FOMO or Fear of Missing Out is one of the conditions that 56 percent of people tend to suffer from. FOMO means having to check their email or social media account all the time so as not to miss out on events, updates and issues. Due to constant and uncontrollable use of social media, 52 percent wish that they could get away from it all. 24 percent plan to stop using one of their existing accounts. 31 percent of those who wish to take a break are aged 18 to 34 years old. More women (55 percent) are also more likely to have more than one social media account to get connected with old friends and acquaintances compared to men (42 percent).
