NY Fashion Week's Most Social Designers

Instagram might be new but it has created a huge following among social media fans. The recent New York Fashion Week showed that Instagram was on the top spot when it comes to having a mass of followers. During NYFW Spring 2013, held on September 6 to 12, 2012, the social media site garnered a significant rise in followers by as much as 800 per cent. Top designers were monitored throughout the activities, events and parties, and of the world-renowned designers found huge increases in the number of individuals following them on Instagram. Some of the big names in the list include Carolina Herrera (@lapacanins), Michael Kors (@MichaelKors), Badgely Mischka (@badgelymischka), Rebecca Minkoff (@RebeccaMinkoff), Mara Hoffman (@hoffmanmara), Tory Burch (@toryburch) and Tracey Reese (@Tracy_Reese). Even J. Mendel (@jmendel) fashion house immediately rose up the ranks, considering it only created an account a few days before the start of the event. Many online users feel that a lot of credit can be given to the behind-the-scenes shots. These raw photos allow fans to have an up-close look at everything that?s going on from preparation to the actual walks on the runway. Designers also relied on Pinterest and experienced huge growths in their follower count. Many have garnered thousands of followers just a few months after they started their accounts. Twitter and Facebook, of course, remain the kings of social media, having existing and active accounts of several of the world?s leading fashion designers like Jill Stuart (@jillstuart), Zac Posen (@Zac_Posen) and Rebecca Minkoff. Since most of the designers using these social media platforms already have a huge following, they only experienced a small increase in the number of new fans. Online users can easily get news and updates on NYFW by simply creating an account on Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter or Facebook. When designers use Instagram, experts recommend that they form good working relationships with fans and followers. Many experienced better results by asking questions compared to simply presenting their latest creations.
