TweetDeck UK Faces Closure Threat For Late Reports

January 15, 2013
tweetdeckTweetDeck (@TweetDeck), together with its owning company Twitter, were penalized for filing late accounts in September 2012. Companies House (@CompaniesHouse) is the registrar of companies in the United Kingdom which warned the two groups against making the same mistake again. Twitter was successful in complying with the requirements but TweetDeck is now in trouble for again failing to file accounts. Companies House warned that TweetDeck is on the verge of closure if they do not provide information about their company returns in a span of 99 days. Otherwise, they will be removed from the register altogether. This is the second time that TweetDeck failed to file on time. The first was in September and the second in December 2012. The returns are required by Companies House so that they can determine how much tax should be collected from various business groups. The financial statements should be provided by companies with their returns. These are all considered public records and the Companies House is very strict when it comes to deadlines. TweetDeck can be closed down in the United Kingdom if it doesn?t meet the deadline. Twitter has not provided any statements regarding the issue. According to SkyNews, the initial fine of ?375 was collected in September. The second was also for the same amount on December 31, 2012. Some of the other consequences that TweetDeck faces if it still fails to file include being fined ?1,500, as well as having to go through court and debt recovery procedures. TweetDeck was bought by Twitter for a reported $40 million. During the first week of January 2013, Twitter UK reported a profit of around $26,600 on a total income of $780,000. According to a spokesperson for Companies House, "This is a non-compliance issue and a compulsory strike-off action has commenced. TweetDeck is still yet to file. That means they have 99 days to file up-to-date accounts or face being dissolved and struck-off the register."
