#Twitter Taps #Media Moguls For Its Board

September 26, 2012
Twitter seems to be positioning itself to go public -- as soon as it properly defines and establishes its existing business model. One of the main objectives is to add more people to its current board of directors. The social media site is looking at various leaders who have the potential to drive the company to greater heights. Some of the top media executives are being considered for the position, including Peter Chernin, chairman and CEO of The Chernin Group. Chernan is the former president chief operating officer of media conglomerate News Corp. The move toward getting media moguls to sit on its board comes as the micro-blogging platform tries builds a wider and more solid relationship with the entertainment business. Other individuals reportedly being interviewed for the position include Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch), founder of News Corp. The search for new board members began after Mike McCue (@mmccue) of Flipboard exited. McCue is said to have left Twitter when he observed how his own company might develop conflict of interest with the micro-blogging site soon. Chernin is a strong candidate because of his solid background and experience, being one of the main designers of Hulu at News Corp. Hulu is a website and over-the-top subscription service that offers ad-supported on-demand streaming of TV shows, movies and other videos. Chernin Entertainment, his own media firm, has also grown into a very strong company, featuring hit TV shows like New Girl on Fox and movies like Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Chernin is also a board member of Pandora, a major music-streaming site. Whether Chernin is joining the Twitter board or not is news that's yet to be confirmed and made official, although sources close to the matter say that interviews are ongoing. Twitter is based in San Francisco and is poised to lead the social media industry in the next few years. More apps, developments and features have recently been introduced to improve its standing in the market and on the Internet. The social media group has particularly shown interest in advertising and helping big and small businesses market online. Specific changes were made to the layout and new options and applications have been introduced recently to further help potential advertisers who use the website.
