When You Make Insensitive Posts, Hashtags Like #TweetLikeABC Happen

hashtagfailAfter horrors of injured children and ruined homes at the Gaza strip caused by countries like Israel and Ukrainefilled TV screens around the world, those outside the war zones have become more sensitive about the issue. Social media users and TV viewers were outraged after ABC anchor Diane Sawyer made an errant reference to the bombings in Gaza as having occurred in Israel, instead of Palestine.

The error was committed by Sawyer on ABC?s ?Operation Protective Edge? on July 9, 2014. The report featured videos of destroyed homes and buildings caused by Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip.

The anchor reported, ?Here an Israeli family trying to salvage what they can. One woman standing speechless among the ruins.?

Thousands who supported the Palestinian victims immediately resorted to Twitter and created the hashtag #TweetLikeABC to ridicule Sawyer?s wrongful reference. The IDF attacks by Israel has been going on for several days and over 100 Palestinians have already died, with hundreds of others injured, including women and children.

The hashtag #TweetLikeABC attacked the American news network for the insensitive error. ABC was quick to apologize for the mistake but social media platforms were already full of posts and retweets, with some injecting some humor by making memes of Israeli supposedly being the victim in the war.

One user shared a photo of futuristic giant robots attacking a city, which originated from a science fiction movie made by Steven Spielberg called ?War of the Worlds?. The user added, ?TweetLikeABC Reporting live from Israel.? Other users also shared photos featuring alien attacks from movies and referred to these as attacks by Palestine on Israel.

There were also sarcastic posts telling how Palestinian homes were being aggressive by throwing itself against the Israeli bulldozers. Others talked about Japan inching closer towards the giant tsunami. Other posts also showed absurd photos of Palestinians allegedly being the aggressors.

Other posts on #TweetLikeABC were more serious, talking about how Operation Protective Edge, which was initiated by Israel, has caused havoc in the southern towns and cities of the Gaza strips. Over 1,000 targets have been attacked by Israel Air Force jets for days.
