What APIs does Twitter Offer?

I am interested in finding out more about a “hashtags” api. As you seem to be one of the few people involved with api questions I thought I would get in touch.

Regarding the twitter api, they have one. I can not claim to be an expert. I started a project to integrate a news app last year. At the time the plan was to use bit.ly to shorten url’s of press releases on a site and then auto post to twitter. This was very “doable” but the project never completed for client financial reasons.

I am still finding my way around “hashtags” and as yet have not found an api. If you can help, it would be appreciated.
