Twitter Introduces Keyword Targeting Feature

April 18, 2013
Twitter has opened a new opportunity for advertisers and marketers to get closer to their target markets. Keyword Targeting in Timeline now allows advertisers to reach out to their potential markets all over the micro-blogging community by assigning certain keywords where their ads would appear. How does it work? Advertisers key in specific words or phrases they would like to associate their ads with and then when users post even generic tweets containing these keywords, the ads appear on their respective timelines. For example, a startup coffee business may want to key in the likes "i love coffee" or "cappuccino" so their ads automatically appear in timelines of people whose posts recently contained the specific target keywords. keyword One may ask how Keyword Targeting in Timeline may affect the prevalence of hashtags, although it appears that this new feature is simply an additional tool to help strengthen a social media marketing campaign. It does not, like hashtags, classify topics in one thread. Interested parties may sign in to Twitters Ads and select "Switch to Advanced" to find out more about what the service can bring.
