US Ad Agency Celebrates 90 Years With #AdvertisingIs

Young & Rubicam (@YoungRubicam), one of the oldest running businesses in the United States, is turning 90 years old on May 25, 2013. To celebrate its longevity in the industry, it has created the hashtag #advertisingis, inviting social media users to share their thoughts and opinions on the subject that basically defined what the company is all about. People can tweet and include the hashtag on May 25, 2013 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and view their posts on a huge digital billboard at Times Square. Others can go and see the event live. People who wish to have their account name and photo posted on the big billboard can join the hashtag. The mosaic is created by Hyperactive, a company involved in the Spark Plug incubator program initiated by Young & Rubicam. The agency will further share its expertise in advertising and communications, using a variety of new technologies and social media. The hashtag #advertisingis shows how social media has changed the way traditional advertising companies work. Those who quickly innovate and keep up with the demands of modern times and the internet can easily adjust. Y&R recently tweeted, ?And we?re up!? including the hashtag and the picture of the billboard. Another Twitter user, Sylva Sivz (@SSivz56m) posted, ?#advertisingis a simple mix of images and words that convince you you will be happy if you buy.? The hashtag went as far as having one million impressions at its peak, despite generating only around 213 tweets. Advertising and marketing approaches have improved much since the introduction of social media networks and its wide array of features. Hashtags have made conversations and marketing a lot easier for agencies and customers since they can easily browse through the network and find interesting and relevant topics, offering products and services. By using a hashtag, people engage with others and experts in the market to hone their decision and find other great opportunities. Young & Rubicam is a classic example of how traditional businesses can stay strong in the market by learning more about social media.
