Stands for moving bed biofilm reactor- a type of bioreactor thta uses small high surface area plastic carriers that act as supports for biofilm growth. In denitrifying bioreactors, such as Tailwater Systems, denitrifying bacteria is encouraged to grow on the carriers. The high surface area to volume ration results in very high nitrate removal rates for NO3 removing bioreactors.
