A resistance movement to oppose the power grab by the Common Council and Mayor of Utica, NY to override term limits imposes by the majority of voters in a referendum.

The Utica Common Council and Mayor voted to replace the term limits in the City Charter as approved by a majority vote of the Citizens of Utica, NY. Despite vocal public opposition, the Mayor justified his self serving granting of additional terms by double talk that allowing officials to run for more terms than approved by the voters does not replace term limits since it does not effect the number of years in a term just increases the total times they can run. Calls to submit it to a new citizens vote were also dismissed. The Council Attorney advised them that they have the right to increase the powers of the Mayor and Council by simple vote while any attempt to restrict their powers would have to go to a citizens vote in a referendum but that vote could also be overridden by simple vote of the Council to reinstate their powers limited by the citizens! Resist the tyranny!
