Jordan Rice died in January 2011, in the Queensland floods. His bravery, in asking his would-be rescuer to "take my little brother", saved his brother's life. Both Jordan and his mum drowned that day. Tony Abbott and the people who hand out bravery awards refuse to recognise those four words. We as Australians do not need his imprimatur. 265,000+ signatures on change.org failed to move the Australian and Queensland Governments. They refuse to recognise his sacrifice because to do so would threaten the coal seam gas industry which "refused permission" to upgrade the corner where they died, which had been identified as a flood risk. The same people who made Clive Palmer "a national living treasure". They have no credibility as a result of that. Australia doesn't need them to recognise Jordan Rice. Australia should celebrate and be thankful for his sacrifice, without the requirement for the likes of Tony Abbott to be involved. Jordan Rice's sacrifice is the absolute peak to which anybody could aspire to in terms of service to their family and/or community. To require or even contemplate an "elected" representative to be part of celebrating this boy's life.
