Kelsey Michelson is a brave, beautiful, and stony girl. Early summer 2011 Kelsey was experiencing very strong headaches. Her parents took her to the doctor where she was then diagnosed with a brain tumor. This was just shortly after she had made the SEP RythAMetteS dance team. Everybody, the whole community was in shock. The girls on the dance team sold "team Kelsey" t shirts and they read 'keep dancin'' on the front and 'Team Kelsey' on the back. Many many many shirts were sold and also bracelets to help Kelsey's family pay for everything. Kelsey underwent many surgery a and about a year ago 90% of her tumor was removed. But Kelsey's journey still was like a roller coaster. She had her ups and downs. About a months or so ago, the Chemotherapy Kelsey was undergoing stopped working. So, doctors tried a new medicine out on her. Things were looking up until about a week ago. Kelsey experienced a severe seizure. She then had an MRI done and everyone in the community was praying for good results. But, there were none. The doctors told Kelsey's family that she had fought a long and tough battle, but there was nothing else they could do for her. Her tumor had taken over 2/3 of her brain and was bleeding. Kelsey was sent home to be with her family in the 1-2 weeks Kelsey had been given. The first few days she was home she had probably hundreds of visitors. Everyone on the community had come together to support our little dancing inspiration. Yesterday, the doctors checked up in her and gave her only hours to live. Her family asked that they get to spend them with her, alone. This is when the trend #teamkelsey really came to life. Everybody from SEP high school was there to support her and we all wanted her story spread throughout the world. Soon, other schools joined in, even our biggest rivalry, Ankeny. Soon after other states were hearing her story and trying to spread the word. And yes, it was well spread and did become a trending topic for a short period of time. Kelsey ended up proving the doctors wrong and making it through the night with only a couple scares. But, today, December 10th, 2012 our precious little angel lost her battle against cancer around 10:40 am. The school became silent, but we still hold together as one. Kelsey will never be forgotten and will always be my biggest hero. And she is now watching over us, and dancing with God. #TeamKelseyForever #RipKelsey
