TrashTheRemote was initiated in August 2015 by @SUREUniversal to create awareness in regards to how many AA sized batteries are put into our landfills every year. The average TV remote control takes up to x2 AA sized batteries and these are replenished on average once a year. In the US, each household typically has x3 TV remotes and there are 123M housing units within the country, meaning there’s somewhere in the region of 750 MILLION batteries being put into landfill every year and that’s disregarding other household remotes. What is the solution? Use a Universal Remote app on your smartphone. These apps can usually control all the appliances the regular remote controls and by doing so the quantity of AA batteries can be reduced substantially.
