The Seneca Army Depot, originally named the Seneca Ordinance, was located between Seneca and Cayuga lakes in Seneca County, New York. The Seneca Army Depot was one of 4 US Military ammunition storage facilities built at the beginning of WWII. Built in 1941, it stored ammunition, weapons and atomic material from the Manhattan Project, and later came to be the nation's largest storage facility for nuclear weapons. The Seneca Army Depot was comprised of 10,587 acres and was home to the world's largest herd of all white, white-tail deer. The depot was decommissioned in the late 1990's. Today it is home to the 3,000 acre Deer Haven Park, where these Majestic Seneca white deer still reside.
