Sarah, a reckless teenager, started a prank with the intention to become famous -- but did not expect the major consequences that followed.
On April 13, 2014, she tweeted using her account
@QueenDemetriax, alleging that she would attack an airline.
She posted, ?@AmericanAir. hello my name?s Ibrahim and I?m from Afghanistan. I?m part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I?m gonna do something really big bye.?
American Airlines did not delay to show their dissatisfaction with the minor user?s post. Their Twitter account responded, ?@QueenDemetriax_Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI.?
Sarah began to freak out upon reading the post. She tweeted her apologies immediately and said she was only joking. She even added that her account was hacked and it was not her typing the threats on the keyboard. She claimed to be a fan of Demi Lovato from the Netherlands.
She further said that she is very scared with American Airlines? answer and that she will tell her parents about the incident. Most likely her parents will tell her to stop using Twitter or delete her account, which will be the end of her life. In the end, she was surprised that she gained close to 30,000 new Twitter followers because of the incident.
It is uncertain whether American Airlines truly forwarded Sarah?s details to the FBI, although Nu Wexler, spokesman for Twitter said that they do not comment on individual accounts for both security and confidential reasons.
Many Twitter users also amused themselves by scaring Sarah further, saying she deserved to go to jail or will be banned from the social media site.
Lesson learned: Don't post idiotic tweets.
