If you have been using Twitter for quite some time, this news might disappoint you: The major micro-blogging website has disallowed users from uploading animated GIFs in profile avatars. Before, users enjoyed uploading animated images with the support of alternative applications and tools. If you have been using these to make your profile picture more interesting, you no longer have the privilege to do so now. According to Chris Torres (@prguitarman), a professional illustrator and creater of the GIF animation Nyan Cat, he recently tried uploading his renowned avatar to no avail. He told Mashable in an interview: ?Oh wow, I just tried to upload an animated avatar on an unused alt account and it didn?t animate. That?s scary! But it?s also cool knowing we?re part of an exclusive animated GIF club." You might be thinking the same thing -- that Twitter finally stopped the uploads after many online users found new ways to continue uploading GIFs that were more than the maximum limit allowed by the website. Twitter generally allows you to use avatar photos that are only 700KB or smaller. The site is hoping to save more space by cutting out extras. If you check out BuzzFeed, you will discover that GIFs can no longer be used as an avatar. Animated avatars are described as moving or active images that people usually add to their signatures and profile pictures. These are a fun and creative way to present photos. Animated GIFs now will no longer show in many apps on the social media site. You might also be disappointed to know that these further do not show in Mac OS, iPhone and Android mobile units. Are you a GIF fan? How are you reacting to this latest move by Twitter? Let us know in the comments!
