Twitter Expands Trends With 100 New Cities

December 6, 2012
Twitter continues to boost its operations and improves the efficiency of the website by allowing more people to view the most relevant and interesting news and topics. Recently, 100 new cities were added to its list of localized trends so users can immediately find the most discussed and important issues and hashtags as soon as they log in. Some of the cities in the list include South Korea, Mexico, Istanbul and Frankfurt. This means that Twitter also gains access to these places to sell their advertising products. According to a blog post by Kostas Tsioutsiouliklis (@kostas), an engineer for Twitter, the update will show the ?most breaking? news in over 200 areas around the world. Twitter has been very busy expanding its reach to other parts of the globe. It recently shared plans of putting up offices in Australia and Paris, France to better cater to their millions of followers in these locations. Southeast Asia has also been on their sights and partnerships are reportedly being forged to promote their advertising products. Trends or trending topics are useful in identifying the most talked about issues whenever and wherever. Companies and brands can also take advantage of the Promoted Trends where they can stay visible at the top of the list for a certain fee.
