A survey of American adults by Dan Hopkins of fivethirtyeight about their Twitter usage found just 12 percent of respondents reported using the social media platform. So Twitter posters are a small but vocal minority. They found that among those who do tweet, users who routinely tweet more atypical minority. Political tweeters are even more polarized than the nation as a whole. Therefore twitter represents the minority extremes of the American polity - it's the tail wagging the dog.
