A Hero of Hull will have worked, lived, or have been born in Greater Hull, comprising Beverley, Haltemprice, Holderness or Kingston upon Hull and served in any period of armed conflict - all be it a so-called 'Police Action', 'Armed Dispute' or full blown war. A Hero of Hull might be a young lady man, 14 years and over, serving as a cycle messenger; a young married lady dragged form her home to make guns at Metal Box, grenades at 'Radiators', rifle furniture at Hollis's, drive a bus or delivery lorry or employed as a welder at Dustan's. They may have been an Air Raid Warden, a Firewatcher, a Rescue Worker, Ambulance Driver, First Aider or maybe the bravest of them all - the gent' who drove the fuel tanker around The City filling up the fire pubs as the bombs fell all around him! Of course, also included in the Heroes of Hull (Haltemprice, Holderness & Beverley) are the Soldiers, Airmen and women and the sailors of the Royal Navy, Merchant Navy, Fishing Fleets and the Inland Waterways. We Need you to tell us who they were.
