Vote NO to Amend the Indiana State Constitution on Nov. 6, 2018. The amendment specifying pre-funded pension funds affects some State pensions, but not others. These funds include: the State of Indiana’s portion of the Public Employees Retirement Fund (PERF) hybrid plan; the State of Indiana’s portion of the Select Teachers Retirement Fund (TRF) members, which may include teachers employed by state correctional facilities; Excise, Gaming and Conservation Officer’s Retirement Fund. In layman’s terms, the above funds are mathematically estimated and prefunded now. This amendment allows for these to become targeted each budget cycle so that the prefunding can be suspended if the state exceeds its budget. These funds then could potentially be used to pay for the short fall by reducing their funding in the next budget. Moreover, the amendment does not allow any legal actions pursuing the pension funding. To protect ALL public employees from possibly having their pension funds raided to cover shortfalls to the state budget, vote NO on Public Question 1.
