When we talk of parenting tactics, we often talk about what "works" and what "doesn't work". Without ever defining what we even mean by that. Usually, at least for me, it means, "can I get my child to think, feel, and act the way I want them to". I would like to challenge that mentality. By "work", in my opinion, it should only mean one thing: will this parenting tactic help me connect with my child. Period. Because it is only with true connection that we will ever have any real influence for good with others. As the saying goes, "Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care".
