BIYB Hash Tag was started as a movement in May 2020 by Emma Van Heusen. The outbreak of Corona virus was reaching it’s peak and the world is glued to their screens and their social media.
Remote working in isolation has become mandatory with social distancing and lockdown not just in the UK but worldwide. With more female entrepreneurs than ever trying to juggle running their businesses and manage home schooling. The plight of overwhelm and lack of mind space, self worth and mental stability with external support is climbing.
The elephant in the room is that mental health will be the biggest drain on our fragile NHS and Health Care services worldwide coming out of lock down.
Daily habits and time blocking with structure is important. However an optical action that can help females to keep their mindset from slipping is to not fall into the trap of slouching around working in gym kit or pajamas or “comfortable clothes” is to dress up, make an effort for you and strap on your bra and get to business. Mental Health can be a slippery slope in times like this and not caring about your appearance and not focusing on self care and fitness is a slope none of us want to slide down.
Women often talk about this loss of self from being a stay at home Mum or working from home… “ I would get up, rushing because the dog needed a walk, and throw on the nearest clothes to me. Jogging bottoms, greasy hair scraped back… it wasn’t a great look. I thought I was letting myself relax, by not worrying about what I was wearing or having any pressure to look a certain way. I thought it was almost self care, letting myself have a makeup free day and not caring about how I look so I could focus on other stuff.Â
But actually, it wasn’t self care at all. For me, it was self destructive. If I saw anyone in the village, I couldn’t look them in the eye because I felt so disgustingly hideous. I felt like I was almost unrecognisable to the me who spent time on herself carefully choosing her outfits.
BIYB Business in your bra is about empowering each other to show up for ourselves and by feeling our best, do our best! It’s about not giving up and SUPPORTING OURSELVES AND EACHOTHER.
