"Delivery Driver", a novel by Dustin Augustine DeMille, is an interesting, amusing expose of the life of a delivery driver. This is the first novel of its kind to be written about the subject. It is raunchy and rebellious, even shocking at times. There is drama, suspense, action, humor, and romance in this novel, and I'm certain you will love it. This is a story about a nice, clean-cut, young man, Jason Miller, a romantic intellectual with a rebellious streak. Jason is a smart man with a college degree, who is unable to find work in his chosen field, so he gets a job delivering pizza at Pleasure Pizza. The story is set in San Diego, California in the year 2000; in the story are references to the popular music of that time. The first few chapters introduce the rest of the crew and detail his learning the intricacies of the job; it is an enlightening depiction of the insides of working at a pizza place. Following are various misadventures for our protagonist - getting lost, pulled over, dealing with bad customers, a robbery, a breakdown, an accident, and some romantic escapades. There are also some parts that deal with his interactions with the other crew members, many of which are very funny. Jason visits all sorts of places in his deliveries - a church, an auto dealership, a strip club, a law office, and even his old high school. In his travels, he meets a variety of interesting people and has many crazy experiences. In the end, he grows as an individual and learns something about himself. A central theme of this story is dignity for the working class and the struggles they go through in their menial work to achieve financial freedom. Lessons and values like hard work, humility, and integrity are taught. I hope you enjoy reading this novel as much as I did writing it.
