Short for "employment law." This is the body of laws that governs the relationship between workers (employees), employers, unions and the government. In the United States, this includes laws covering such activities as diverse as the payment of wages, use of breaks, starting/stopping work, to more well-known employment laws relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and so on.
