Small businesses can find new opportunities with a launch party to be held on December 11, 2013 which aims to showcase startups and create a network from individuals with similar passions and goals. Dubbed ?The Sacramento Hashtag Project?, the event will showcase an interactive hashtag map to support city residents and educate them on how to stay informed and linked with communities and neighborhoods. The party will commence at 7 p.m. at New Helvetia Brewing Co. at 1730 Broadway in Sacramento. Participants can RSVP online and register via EventBrite. The event is open for everyone interested free of charge. Primarily, the objective of the online or hashtag map is to allow Sacramento residents to get in touch with the place where they live in, work and do all other usual activities. Individuals should type in their place of residence, point out their neighborhood then look for tweets associated with the community or neighborhood they live in. Mary Jayne Zemer is the project coordinator and shared how the project will ultimately connect residents with existing small businesses in their area. Small businesses are a vital part of the community according to Zemer, so providing information to increase engagement among potential and current customers will help support these enterprises. Small businesses add color and provide for the various needs and demands of the neighborhoods. Twitter tutorials will also be made available online so users can download the Twitter app and make their own account. They can start discussing various topics in their neighborhood in the many available conversations. The Sacramento Hashtag Project is sponsored by The Urban Hive, Public Innovation, Social Media Club Sacramento and Code for Sacramento.
