Twitter Acquires TV Analytics Firm

Twitter is actively collaborating with a number of companies to expand its operations and boost sales on its advertisement products. On February 5, 2013, the social micro-blogging company said that it will be buying Bluefin Labs. Bluefin Labs is a social analytics company that acquires information about online conversations revolving around TV shows. The social media giant will be acquiring the social analytics company for a price tag of $100 million. Terms and conditions of the said contract were not disclosed. This is actually the biggest acquisition by Twitter, by far. Recently, Twitter also collaborated with Nielsen to make the Nielsen Twitter TV Rating.

The new move is proof that Twitter is boosting its efforts to improve its status on social TV, considering that it is under a lot of pressure to increase revenue because of other plans to go pulic later on. According to Twitter, the product suite of Bluefin will not be offered beyond the stipulations of the contract. There are plans of using the SocialGuide platform of Nielsen to get vital information about the value of TV and Twitter. Twitter further shares that the expertise of Bluefin will help the company make new innovative advertising products and improve the experience of users by merging the benefits of TV and social micro-blogging. Bluefin shared that the company is excited to work with Nielsen and other agencies in the TV industry to pave the way for social TV.
