There's a New Scary Movie in the Works -- And It's Titled #Horror

February 20, 2014
Tara Subkoff is now known as the first director who came up with a movie that featured a hashtag for a title. #Horror will be the first movie ever to use a hashtag as its title, starring Chloe Sevigny, ?who is known for her roles in "American Horror Story" and "Boys Don't Cry," for which she earned an Academy Award for her supporting role. Other people in the cast involve Timothy Hutton, Natasha Lyonne, Stella Schnabel, Balthazar Getty, Lydia Heart, Taryn Manning and Annabelle Dexter-Jones. The director describes #Horror as a scandalous dark thriller so social media users may not poke as much fun on it than usual. Currently, there are still no details revealed on the plot. Deadline first made the announcement of the upcoming unique title. This will be the directorial debut of Tara Subkoff, who is an American actress and fashion designer who has appeared in more than 30 films including ?As Good As It Gets? and ?Last Days of Disco?. The upcoming film shows how popular hashtags are becoming as brands and advertising campaigns use these primarily to grab attention and create buzz. There were also products in the past that used hashtags. Even hotel services incorporated hashtag use to provide a completely unique experience to clients. Music albums already featured hashtags in 2013 and more titles and brands preceded by the ?#? symbol are expected to drive more fans and users on social media. For this particular hashtag movie, however, the word "horror" encompasses too many other subjects and is not specific to the movie, so marketers will do well to think of something more targeted when they actually start advertising for the film. Hashtags has become an effective marketing tool since it allows the target audience to immediately discuss and share their insights about products and companies through a common ground. Marketers and executives can converse with supporters and get new ideas on a personal level to improve their output and understand current consumer demands. The details on #Horror will begin to unravel most likely after social media users share their opinions.
