Supply Management is a Canada-wide system for controlling the production, buying, selling, marketing, distribution, and advertising of certain agricultural products so as to avoid wild fluctuations in supply, demand, and pricing. Currently chicken, eggs, and turkeys are part of the Supply Management system. Some blame Supply Management for creating oppressive monopolies and much higher prices paid by consumers (as much as 300% higher). Quota issued by the Supply Management system permits the current owners to exclusively do producing or buying of these controlled commodities, and all others are prohibited.

Spent Fowl are female chickens (hens) who have finished laying eggs for over a year period, their egg production rate is now dropping off, so they have been replaced by new, younger hens. Once declared to be a "Spent Fowl", the hen is either ground up while still alive, killed and landfilled, or sold as a "Spent Fowl" for use as pet food, fertilizer, compost, ground chicken, or some other similar fate. Since "Spent Fowl" can be imported duty-free into Canada, and Canadians are forced by the #ChickenMafia to pay 300% more for chicken than the equivalent chicken in the USA, there is a black market for smuggling every available Spent Fowl into Canada that can be obtained, as a cheaper supply of chicken meat.

Chicken Mafia is a slang, derogatory name for the chicken Supply Management system in Canada. The Chicken Mafia members are all individuals and organizations who directly or indirectly benefit from the monopoly created by Canada's Federal and Provincial Governments. The Chicken Mafia, through their delegated powers, regulate the growing, buying, import, export, selling, pricing, transportation, marketing, and advertising of chicken in Canada. The Chicken Mafia use their powers to charge 300% more for chicken meat than the same chicken outside Canada (eg. available in USA), and to prevent or limit locally produced, affordable food. The Chicken Mafia has its own private police force ("Chicken Police") who claim to have the power to search and inspect any place without warrant, seize chickens & meat & business records, and laying charges against anybody they suspect of violating the Chicken Mafia's rules.
