Obsession over social media has reached a new high when a mother named her newborn “Hashtag” after the popular Twitter feature.
The announcement was actually made using another popular social media platform, Facebook, featuring the proud mother with her sleeping baby in a photo. The post deleted the first name of the mother but showed her family name as “Jameson”.
The photo also came with a message saying, “Hashtag Jameson was born at 10 oclock last night. She weys 8pounds and I luv her so much!!!!!!”
This is not actually the first time that babies were named after famous social media materials and content.
In February 2012, a father from Egypt named his daughter “Facebook”. He did so to commemorate the January 25 revolution in the country. Many Egyptians are actually avid Twitter users. They appreciate how the social media network has helped widely in their independence through the ousting of former-dictator Hosni Mubarak.
Other websites also shared the photo with the news, including Awkwardmessages.com.
Baby Hashtag will be among the few ones with names spawned after social media addiction. Others that are included in the list are Baby Moo, Baby Eh, Baby Buddy Bear Maurice (son of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver), Moxie Crimefighter (daughter of Penn Jillette) and Tu (daughter of actor Rob Morrow). Buddy Bear Maurice’s sisters also have unique names – Poppy Honey Rosie, Petal Blossom Rainbow and Daisy Boo Pamela.
Many Twitter and Facebook fans also spread and retweeted the post, spurring several to comment on the unlikely name. Others are still debating whether the picture and announcement is an online prank.
Others also shared jokes related to the subject matter. Online users also shared related names and other odd characters that parents tend to name their kids after. In due time, it’s highly expected for Baby Hashtag to have a hashtag of her own.
