Police Keep Social Media Busy On 2nd Global Tweet-A-Thon

The police force in Toronto shared in the excitement to become part of the 2nd Global Police Tweet-A-Thon on November 1, 2013. The hashtag #PolTwt was created for police forces from different parts of the world to discuss the special event. This was the first time that Toronto Police joined. The first Tweet-A-Thon was held on March 22, 2013 wherein more than 200 law enforcement groups from different countries like New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Peru gathered on Twitter to talk about various topics related to their line of work. The 1st Global Police Tweet-A-Thon was a huge success, reaching more than 11 million users and generating over 48,800 tweets in different languages. The November event started at 8 a.m. on November 1 and ended 24 hours later on November 2. It generated 33,200 tweets in a span of two weeks and made over 136 million impressions. The main goal of the social media activity is to discuss the various issues related to policing and encourage active use of social media among police forces. Police agencies all over the world create their own policies and objectives then share their unique ideas on #PolTwt. Each tweet should include the hashtag to make the event as big as possible. The hashtag #PolTwt has been doing very well on Twitter, as police forces from Oklahoma, Texas, New Zealand, Europe and others continue to retweet and spread the word about the tweet-a-thon. Police departments are currently inviting others to join or follow their tweets to know more about policing, their specific objectives and other developments in their particular areas. The activity shows the influence and power of social media in bringing groups and people together from various parts of the globe to achieve one goal. Companies and government agencies can use the same approach in the future to achieve objectives and improve relations.
