The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) introduced the SATE conference in 2007 to foster dialog in the business community about the methodology of Experience Design. The SATE acronym stands for Story + Architecture + Technology = Experience. SATE also alludes to a collaborative culture of production, in which designers, technologists and clients work closely together from the early stages of a project, in a team structure often more horizontal than hierarchical. SATE '13 will take place October 3-4 at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia USA.

The IMERSA Summit is the annual conference of IMERSA (Immersive Media, Entertainment, Research, Science & Arts) an international non-profit professional organization that celebrates and promotes immersive digital dome (fulldome) media for education and entertainment in planetariums, schools, museums, cinemas, events and attractions. Mandated to raise the profile and professionalism of its members, IMERSA bridges many disciplines including researchers, artists and technicians. IMERSA is a driver and nexus for communication, collaboration, experimentation, education and promotion of digital immersive media in a variety of formats and functions, especially the digital dome (fulldome). "Innovations in Immersive Storytelling" is the theme of the IMERSA Fulldome Summit, 14-17 February at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. The event is attended by operators, content creators and distributors, producers and vendors serving planetariums, giant screen cinema and themed attractions - all converging markets because of digital cinema. The Denver Museum of Nature & Science will be the setting for the annual IMERSA Summit, preceded by two and a half days of fulldome (digital dome video) professional development sessions. The Thea Awards, founded in 1994, are bestowed annually by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) to celebrate excellence in the creation of compelling places and experiences. The slate of recipients is announced in November and the awards are formally presented the following spring at the Thea Awards Gala, an elegant, black tie dinner affair. The Thea Awards Gala is traditionally held in the Los Angeles area. The 2013 Thea Awards Gala will be held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, on April 6. The first Thea Award was given to entertainment economics and feasibility pioneer (and Disney legend) Harrison "Buzz" Price to recognize a lifetime of achievements. The awards have since expanded to cover projects as well as people, and typically about a dozen awards are given, including a "Classic" award, a series of Awards for Outstanding Achievement, and the lifetime achievement award, now called the Buzz Price Thea Award Recognizing a Lifetime of Distinguished Achievements. A Thea Award is presented to the project owner. As part of the process, the project owner must provide a comprehensive listing of credits for the creation of the project, for TEA to publish. Thereby the Thea Awards are a creative handshake and mutual recognition symbol between the project owner and the creative people, companies and suppliers who realize the vision. The Thea Awards credits are published on the TEA website and in the printed Thea Awards Program. More info: www.teaconnect.org.
